Hacks To Feeling Better

My Ways To Get Well Mentally

It is normal to feel emotional once in a while, but do you often find yourself stuck in a constant cycle of sadness/anger? I do! I have struggled to find remedies and ways to control my anxiety and depression for years; I have tried the "just breathe" method plenty of times and although it does calm the nerves down a bit, it has never been enough to completely stop my panic and down emotions. The past four years, I have spent a lot of time going to different therapies, doings tons of research, and attempting to find myself. I have had some shocking outcomes from the switch ups I have done to improve my life and mental health. Every day gets better and better so I am going to share my hacks with you right now in hopes of you feeling amazing as well.

We all already know that eating right is extremely important, but do you know which foods are best for your mind and body? Mental health and nutrition are tied together in many ways! My mood suffers if I am not giving myself proper nourishment. Here is a list of yummy foods to boost you:

Blueberries

This is the power berry. Blueberries contain antioxidants to help memory, motor control, digestion, and so much more. Picking them fresh when you have a chance is the best because they're nutrient packed but you can also find them frozen & at your local markets.
I love blueberry oatmeal in the mornings and snacking on them during the day. Dogs can also consume blueberries as a healthy treat. (Mine loves them as much as I do!)

Broccoli

Broccoli helps improve cognitive ability and boost memory. I like this veggie raw with ranch, but many people don't. If you are one of those people, try sautéing it in olive oil or butter & add your favorite seasonings! You can also mix this in salads and other dishes if you aren't a fan of the taste. Salmon

Other than containing DHA, which is excellent for your brain, salmon also contains a perfect amount of vitamins to keep you healthy. Our bodies do not create DHA on their own, therefore we have to get it from food. Of course, wild caught salmon is the best option. Search different ways to cook this fish and find what flavor/style you like best!

Avocados

Avocados are a superfood. Our brains need monounsaturated fats to promote good blood flow and protects nerve cells. At my house, we eat lots of avocados. From tacos to toast to breakfast plates, it's on everything! Jazz it up however you like.

Self care is super important, especially when you are searching for motivation. Try to take a relaxing bubble bath once a week with your favorite candles/essential oil diffuser in the bathroom with you. Write down your emotions and plans in a journal to keep your thoughts organized and so you don't forget upcoming events. Paint or get your fingernails and toes done. Add some sparkle or a cute design! Try to take a break from social media every week as well. Take care of yourself because there's only one you.
One of my favorite self care tips is to shower meditate. After every stressful day, run a warm shower. Imagine all your worries & anxiety washing down the drain with the soap. When you get out, put on a scented lotion and some lavender oil. Fall asleep thinking positively about the next day/month/year and your goals. I promise this will make you feel a lot lighter!

Exercising is also something we must do in order to feel our best. It can be difficult to make time and find mental energy, but once you go on that run or do those sit ups, your body and mind will feel so much better. Start slow with easy work outs and don't push yourself. Yoga is a great option! Remember to drink lots of water every day.

Dress up in a cute outfit and go do something! (Even if you're only running errands.) Grab lunch with a friend, go shopping, etc. This will help you feel confident. Take some photos and upload them. Don't keep checking the notifications and don't keep staring at the pictures. Whatever you do, do not delete them. You are beautiful and "hearts" don't have to prove that! If you feel good and gorgeous, that's all that matters.

Let loose and be you. It's easier said than done, I know, but once you genuinely want to be and do better, your whole mindset will change. Surround yourself with supportive and positive people. Allow yourself to have fun and feel free. Go on a drive with the windows down and music loud during sunset. Always know that your bad emotions are temporary and that  you are able to feel happiness and overcome everything that is in your way. Leave yourself reminders about how amazing you are all over your bedroom! xo
